OrangeBeautiful began in the fall of 2004 after designer, bookbinder + paper fanatic, Emily Wentz, left her full-time job to start her own business.
After a year of working out of her 600 sq. ft. Chicago apartment and meeting wedding invitation clients in random coffee shops, Emily moves operations into a loft studio space on the north side of Chicago.
Over the next four and a half years, the company grows leaps & bounds: attending the National Stationery Show with our first line of greeting cards, co-founding the design blog The Scoop, exhibiting at nearly a dozen different area craft shows and marketplace events (including Renegade Craft Fair and One of a Kind Chicago), and taking on over 100 custom design clients.
In early 2010, Emily finds a storefront space just blocks from her home and in May of that year, opens OrangeBeautiful Studio+Shop, carrying OB products, as well as the work of other local & independent designers.
The focus on supporting other small business owners would continue on for seven years, and ultimately grow into the founding of SHOW of HANDS Chicago, OrangeBeautiful's very own craft show, which began in the fall of 2013.
A few years later, in January 2017, the bittersweet decision was made to close up the retail shop on Damen Avenue, and focus entirely on OrangeBeautiful's product line, custom design work and the further growth of SHOW of HANDS Chicago.
Now entering its 14th year in business, OrangeBeautiful is excited to see what the future holds!
